Scoutmaster Merit Badge

The Raven Knob Scoutmaster Achievement Award, a.k.a. Scoutmaster Merit Badge, recognizes the tremendous contribution adult leaders make to the Camp and the Scouts in attendance. To qualify for the award, an adult leader should complete the requirements below.

Requirements (updated 2021)

Scoutmasters should complete 8 of the following requirements, or complete one of the week-long requirements below.

  • Volunteer for at least two hours in the Trading Post

  • Help sanitize tables in between meal shifts at the Dining Hall

  • Help with trash removal at the Dining Hall

  • Serve as a Lookout in the Aquatics Area

  • Row for the Mile Swim

  • Volunteer in the Raven Scouts Area

  • Assist the Ranger staff for at least half a day

  • Help prepare the arena for an upcoming campfire

  • Drive a vehicle for the Citizenship in the Nation field trip (Monday evening) or the Mountain Biking excursion (Friday afternoon)

  • Hike to the top of Raven Knob

  • Serve as a Chaplain’s Aide for an evening Vespers service

  • Complete one of the adult leader training courses offered throughout the week (see schedule)

  • Other activity approved ahead of time by the Program Director, Head Commissioner, Camp Ranger, or Camp Director

OR a unit leader may complete one of the following week-long options:

  • Instruct a merit badge session for the week

  • Instruct in the Raven Scouts Area for the week

  • Complete the BSA Lifeguard program

  • Assist the Ranger staff for a part of at least four days
