Important Navigation & GPS Warning

Standard GPS applications (Google Maps, Apple Maps) can occasionally route high-clearance vehicles, charter buses, and troop trailers onto unpaved service roads or narrow mountain switchbacks near camp. Please follow the verified highway directions below once you approach Mount Airy.

From I-77

  • Take Exit 100 for NC-89 toward Mount Airy.
  • Travel east on NC-89 for approximately 4 miles.
  • Turn left onto Ladonia Church Road (look for the official Camp Raven Knob entrance sign).
  • Proceed 1.5 miles to Hidden Valley Road and turn left.
  • Turn right onto Raven Knob Road.

From US-52

  • Take US-52 North toward Mount Airy.
  • Take Exit 6 for NC-89 / Pine Street and turn left.
  • Travel east on NC-89 for approximately 6 miles
  • Turn left onto Ladonia Church Road (look for the official Camp Raven Knob entrance sign).
  • Proceed 1.5 miles to Hidden Valley Road and turn left.
  • Turn right onto Raven Knob Road.

Charter Buses

All charter buses and heavy equipment trailers must enter via NC-89 onto Ladonia Church Road. Do not use secondary mountain cut-throughs. All charter buses will proceed to the Wesley K. Morgan Maintenance and Logistics Center upon arrival to camp.

Camp Arrival & Parking Rules

  • Camp Speed Limit: The speed limit throughout Camp Raven Knob is 5 MPH at all times. Watch for pedestrian Scouts along all camp roads.
  • Parking: All vehicles must park in the designated parking areas.
  • Driving Passes: Leaders that will need to drive throughout any event at Camp Raven Knob will need a driving pass. Driving Passes will be issued at the Administration Building upon arrival. 

Mount Airy Accommodations & Nearby Stops

  • Hotels & Lodging (for Parents & Visitors): Hampton Inn Mount Airy, Quality Inn Mount Airy, and local bed-and-breakfasts in historic downtown Mayberry (Mount Airy).
  • Last-Minute Supplies: Wal-Mart Supercenter, Dollar General, and local pharmacies are located within 10–15 minutes of camp along NC-89 and US-52.
