National Camp School Lifeguard Training
One of the prerequisites for attending the Aquatics Section at National Camp School is to have a valid Lifeguard certification and CPR/AED training for Professional Rescuer. As an add service to local councils and National Camp School participants we will be offering ARC Lifeguard and CPR/AED Professional Rescuer training immediately before the National Camping School at Camp Raven Knob. This is an excellent, low cost opportunity for participants in the Aquatics Section to become certified Lifesguards to meet the prerequisites of the program in a concise, compact training package.
The course will begin at 7pm Wednesday May 30th and end Saturday morning June 2nd immediately before to the opening of the Camp Raven Knob National Camp School (June 2nd – 8th). Participants will be camping over the course of the training and eating in the camp dining hall.
All participants in the ARC Lifeguard training must pass the following prerequisite for the course:
1. Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they area able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under waterExit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Lifeguard training will complete in time for opening registration for National Camp School Saturday June 2nd.
