Personal Firearms and Archery Equipment PolicyPersonal Firearms and Archery Equipment Policy for Camp Raven Knob
The following Guidelines are meant to ensure that the use of firearms and archery equipment provided by individuals is done in a safe and consistent manner. All Shooting Sports activities must be supervised by a currently certified NRA Range Safety Officer or Instructor with certification for the particular discipline. This individual is authorized to make decisions on the safe operation of the range. Personal firearms should only be brought to camp for scheduled shooting sports activities. All firearms must be unloaded and under the supervision of an adult leader or parent/guardian while being transported to and from camp and while on camp property. Personal firearms and archery equipment are not allowed during summer camp.
Handguns: Personal handguns may brought for use on the firing range by Venturers at Raven Knob with the following safety guidelines:
1. Handguns are restricted to .22 Long Rifle caliber. Only target ammunition is allowed.
2. Each personal handgun must be inspected by the Range Safety Officer before being allowed on the range.
3. The firing range will be supervised by an NRA- Range Safety Officer certified in Handgun shooting. There will be a maximum of three shooters to one instructor.
4. Ear and eye protection must be worn by all participants and staff.
5. Each participant must provide a signed parental notification form that indicates which Venture Crew the youth is registered in, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are not authorized to shoot handguns.
6. When not in use each personal handgun will be secured in a locked manner in accordance with state regulations and not accessible to others. Firearms should be unloaded until on the firing line.
Black Powder Rifles: Personal black powder rifles may be brought for use on the firing range at Raven Knob with the following safety guidelines:
1. Only modern black powder rifles may be used.
2. Each personal black powder rifle must be inspected by the Range Safety Officer before being allowed on the range.
3. The firing range will be supervised by a NRA-Range Safety Officer certified in Black Powder shooting.
4. Ear and eye protection must be worn by all participants and staff.
5. When not in use each personal rifle will be secured in a locked manner in accordance with state regulations and not accessible to others.
6. Black Powder handguns are not allowed.
Rifle: Personal rifles may be brought for use on the firing range at Raven Knob with the following safety guidelines:
1. Rifles are restricted to .22 Long Rifle caliber. Boy Scouts will only shoot .22 single action rifles. Venturers may shoot other action types of .22 rifles. Only target ammunition is allowed.
2. Each personal rifle must be inspected by the Range Safety Officer before being allowed on the range.
3 The firing range must be supervised by a NRA-Range Safety Officer certified in Rifle shooting.
4. Ear and eye protection must be worn by all participants and staff.
5. When not on the range each personal rifle will be secured in a locked manner in accordance with state regulations and not accessible to others.
Archery: Personal bows may be brought for use on the Archery range at Raven Knob with the following safety guidelines:
1. Bows are restricted to a maximum of 40 pounds of pull for Venturers.
2. Only field or target arrows may be used. Broadhead or other hunting tips are not allowed.
3. Proper safety equipment must be worn by all participants.
4. The firing range must be supervised by a certified Archery instructor.
5. When not on the range each personal bow will be secured in a locked manner not accessible to others.
6. Crossbows are not allowed.
